Blinds - Face fitting for windows with an architrave
How to measure the architrave
- Why taking this measurement: to fit the blind to your window’s architrave.
- Type of measurement: specified size with no deductions.
- Type of measuring tape: use the metal tape measure because the cloth ones could stretch and provide inaccurate measurements.
- Tip for measuring: Measure in 3 places and use the smallest measurement.
- Width measurement: use a measuring tape and note the measures from the outer edge of the architrave to the opposite side.
- Height measurement: use a measuring tape and note the measures from the top of the architrave to where you want the blind to finish.
Extra suggestions:
- For roller blinds: this type of measurement is for the placement of the brackets, not the fabric width, which is usually approx. 2-3 cm smaller. A bit of light comes in from the edges.
Blinds - Face fitting for windows with a square set
How to measure the architrave
- Why taking this measurement: to fit your blind outside the window recess, overlapping on all sides.
- Type of measurement: after measuring the size of the recess, add a small extra space on all sides. It ensures adequate coverage.
- Type of measuring tape: use the metal tape measure because the cloth ones could stretch and provide inaccurate measurements.
- Tip for measuring: Measure in 3 places and use the smallest measurement.
- Width measurement: use a measuring tape and note the measures of the exact area that you want the blind to overlap. Allow at least 5 cm per side to minimise the light leakage.
- Height measurement: use a measuring tape and note the measures of the exact area that you want the blind to overlap. Allow at least 7 cm at the top to minimise the light leakage.
- From the floor measurement: despite it is a matter of personal choice, when measuring for a blind that comes to the down close to the floor, we suggest allowing 2 cm clearance
Extra suggestions:
- For roller blinds: this type of measurement is for the placement of the brackets, not the fabric width, which is usually approx. 2-3 cm smaller. Make sure to consider enough overlap for the fabric to cover the area.
- For all types of blinds: when replacing an existing blind with an exact size one, you can measure the blind, including its fittings. Also, specify the face fitting.
Blinds - Recess fitting
- Why taking this measurement: to fit the blind inside the window recess.
- Type of measurement: full width and height of the recess with no deductions.
- Take into considerations possible obstructions (such as handles): check that the recess is deep enough to fit the blind into it.
- Kitchen and bathroom windows may have tiles: make sure to measure between tiles allowing the blind to fit.
